Could Broadmeadows be the next big city of Melbourne?

My first week at MacroPlan as General Manager and I read with interest the Victorian Government has grand plans for Arden, Latrobe and Monash.  The surprise package however is Broadmeadows.  Anyone who doesn’t know this place, here are some interesting facts:
  • Is the birthplace of Millionaire Hot Seat and Collingwood president Eddie McGuire,
  • Is located a mere 15 km from the Melbourne CBD and with median houses prices at $370,000 is still affordable.
With the recent release of the Draft Greater Broadmeadows Framework Plan identifying major transport and infrastructure projects designed to spur Greater Broadmeadows’ growth, the State Government and Hume City Council have a clear vision for Broadmeadows’ urban renewal. The aim of the urban framework plan is to transform the Broadmeadows town centre into a vibrant and activated space that is a great place to live, work and gather. A Broadmeadows Revitalization Board has been established to attract investment and capitalise on potential opportunities and projects.

We will watch this one with interest given MacroPlan’s experience in planning for and delivering major development proposal in urban renewal centres like Werribee, Sunshine, Epping, Dandenong, amongst others.
