2018 FIFA World Cup

MacroPlan 2018 FIFA World Cup Sweepstakes

Hopefully by now you have all caught up on sleep following what has been touted as a World Cup filled with upsets and drama.  If you missed it, here are MacroPlan best, worst and funnies moments from the 2018 FIFA World Cup.  Scroll down to see the announcement of our MacroPlan Sweepstake prize winners.

MACROPLAN’S BEST, WORST AND FUNNIEST MOMENTS

1) ‘Michy’ Batshuayi Slow-Mo falcon (Funny)
The Belgian isn’t the first player to kick the ball off a post into his own face — but he’s for sure the first to do it during the World Cup in an era of instant sharing, rewindable TV, and ultra HD. His moment of hilarious ignominy will surely go down as doing a ‘Michy’ forevermore. Relive it now, it remains unalterably perfect.

2) Neymar Antics (Worst)
The Brazilian superstar didn’t exactly light up this tournament with his feet, but his antics certainly lit up Twitter. His truly pathetic quadruple barrel roll against Switzerland has been rotoscoped into every conceivable circumstance.

3) It’s not always about winning (Best)
When their anthem was played in Nizhny Novgorod before their first ever World Cup game, Panama’s studio pundits cried and held each other. When Felipe Baloy (oldest player to score on their World Cup debut at 37yo) scored their first World Cup goal to make it 1-6 against England, the players, commentators, fans and country went to pieces.

4) It’s (NOT) Coming Home (Funny)
England fans adoption of Euro 96′ anthem ‘Football’s Coming Home’, started as a self-deprecating piece of faintly endearing British irony.  But as England sprang from the group stages, blundering through the knockouts to the semis, Football’s Coming Home began to shed its veneer of irony. England fans started to believe they could actually do it.  And they were promptly punished for it.

5) Optus Shenanigans (Worst)
It’s fair to say that Optus’s coverage didn’t get off to a great start.  AAAAnd it’s probably fair to say things went downhill from there.  The PM stepped in but still the Optus Shenanigans continued downhill.  Then came a big announcement.  SBS would be screening all the games!
