Project name: Gold Coast Light Rail

Location: Gold Coast, Queensland

Status: Report completed in 2011

Brief: The Gold Coast Rapid Transit (GCRT) system is a light rail project providing over $1b of public transport infrastructure to the Gold Coast region.

MacroPlan were commissioned to inform the economic and commercial opportunities for the GCRT Land Use Precinct Planning and Urban Design Frameworks and Guidelines for Gold Coast City Council’s GCRT Corridor Study.

Methodology:  This project involved preparation of an economic and input analysis including modelling economic and demographic outcomes for the project.

Result:  Stage One of Queensland’s first light rail system is now under construction.

MacroPlan was part of the project team that recently won a national Planning Institute of Australia award for ‘Best Planning Ideas: Large Project Award’ for this project.
