Project name: Leederville Town Centre Retail Sustainability
Client: City of Vincent
Project description: The City of Vincent prepared a Leederville Masterplan in 2007 to guide the revitalisation and redevelopment of the Leederville town centre. The Masterplan incorporated Transit Oriented Development (TOD) principles to capitalise on the proximity of the Leederville Train Station. The Leederville Town Centre contained a diverse range of uses including residential, retail, office, restaurants, cafes, civic, community and light industry and was recognised as a Secondary Centre. MacroPlan was commissioned to assess the retail sustainability of the Leederville Town Centre as required under the Western Australian Planning Commission’s State Planning Policy 4.2: Activity Centres for Perth and Peel. We also investigated the broader issues that would underpin a structure plan to guide the future development of the Centre. Our methodology for this project included analysis of the following:
- Retail sustainability and floor space need,
- Population, education and employment,
- Tenancy situation, mix and trading profiles,
- Density and dwelling targets, and
- Short-stay and hotel accommodation.
