Project Name: Woolworths businesses – Future network plans
Location: Australian wide
Status: Completed 2011
Brief: Woolworths required an assessment of future store opportunities for the various Woolworths businesses (Woolworths supermarkets, Big W discount department stores, Dan Murphy’s liquor outlets and Masters Home Improvement stores) in the major growth areas of Australia.
The primary objective of the report was to identify, quantify and rank the likely scale of opportunity for the various Woolworths businesses across each of the future growth areas. The analysis gave specific attention to major growth areas in metropolitan areas, growing regional cities and significant mining centres in Western Australia and Queensland.
Methodology: The analysis firstly reviewed the Australian economy with a particular focus on the drivers of future economic growth, and structural changes that might result from future growth. A detailed population analysis for all regions of Australia was then completed.
All major growth areas throughout Australia were assessed for the potential to accommodate new Woolworths businesses including Woolworths supermarkets, Big W dds, Dan Murphy’s and Masters Home Improvement outlets. The report then ranked every future opportunity for each of the Woolworths businesses.
Result: MacroPlan delivered a detailed and extensively researched report which was very well received by Woolworths. The report provided strategic advice to Woolworths, which assisted the various Woolworths businesses with important future investment decisions, particularly with the planning for new stores in major growth areas throughout Australia.
