Sydney Metro is Australia’s biggest public transport project and will deliver 31 new metro stations and more than 65 kilometres of new metro rail – revolutionising the way people travel in Sydney.
Services start in the first half of 2019 and will be a new generation, fully automated service.
The new metro will rival other metro systems worldwide with a target capacity of 40,000 people per hour; a remarkable increase on the current 24,000 people, per hour, per line.
Sydney Metro, together with signalling and infrastructure upgrades across the existing Sydney rail network, will increase the capacity of train services entering the Sydney CBD – from about 120 an hour today to up to 200 services beyond 2024. That’s an increase of up to 60 per cent capacity across the network to meet demand.
With Stage 1 (Sydney Metro Northwest) of the metro currently under construction, calls are now out to the community to provide input for the Chatswood to Sydenham Environmental Impact Statement (EIS) as part of Stage 2 (Sydney Metro City and Southwest), with the planning approval process to start later this year.
