VicTrack in partnership with Consolidated Properties Group were announced as winners of the “From Plan to Place” award for the ‘Glen Waverley Station Precinct – Ikon Development′ at the Planning Institute of Australia’s 2014 Awards for Planning Excellence.
MacroPlan was engaged by Consolidated Properties Group to obtain planning approvals for the redevelopment of the Glen Waverley Station Site for a new 10 storey, mixed use development. The approvals required included site specific planning scheme amendments, the planning permit for the redevelopment and subsequent amendments.
The IKON Development in the Glen Waverley Station Precinct is an exemplar transit-oriented project that has transformed the Glen Waverley Activity Centre. Highlighted in Plan Melbourne as a case study, the development is a first class example of transport and urban redevelopment integration. Conceived in 2008 by Council and VicTrack it is the first completed development in the Government’s Station Precinct Enhancement Program.
The project provides a clear demonstration of how surplus Government land can be transformed to provide quality mixed use development comprising apartments, offices and retail tenancies in a manner that enabled funds to be generated to secure station improvements.
Minister for Transport and Roads, The Honourable Terry Mulder said that independent modelling showed that the Station Precinct Enhancement Program will deliver a $1 billion boost to the Victorian economy over the next three to five years. This is through the creation of more than 3,000 direct project delivery jobs, a further 5,000 indirect jobs through construction, and the potential to support more than 800 full-time commercial and retail jobs after project completion.
Managing Director of Consolidated Properties David Sinclair said the IKON Glen Waverley development was a pioneering project that responds to the local community’s needs.
The PIA Awards for Planning Excellence were held on Friday 10 October and recognise the achievements and contributions of the Victorian planning community across a diverse range of professional and technical fields.
Award entrants are submitted to a rigorous evaluation process conducted by a panel of judges from within the industry. Winners are submitted to the PIA National Awards, which will be announced in March 2015 in Melbourne.
